Plans changed

My friend told me that my every next post is about google or Linux or open source related and wants me to try out something else, if I really want to make my blog interesting to folks out there. Well, its true that, people out there really understand if you speak your heart rather than your head. So, plans are changed. Thinking what to post in these pages in future, meanwhile here is the link that might interest you. answers.

The Strategy

This is snapshot of an article in eweek . It is about GPL 3.0 (general Public Licence) & Open source. If it sounds greek & latin, pls bear with me. The point is, the advertisement (played in flash) is about Windows Server system - Microsoft product. The advertisement given in an page where an article written about its rival -- open source community . The link (flash link) tracks to a page where first few lines goes like this :

"As you weigh the costs and risks of Windows and Linux, consider this: More and more independent analysts and leading companies find that Windows Server System outperforms Linux on TCO, reliability, security, and indemnification. Get the facts, and make the decision that's right for your business."

This is what we call Strategy !

Tossy Cricket

"You win the toss, you win the match". This is how the currently concluded India - South Africa one day series went. You win toss, put the opponents to bat and ask your best bowler to bowl and thats it. Rest assured you win the match.

Experts say One day matches are more depended on conditions rather anything else. But, what we have seen is more than the scope of the statement. The match result was always decided by the toss. The initial dew on the pitch always helped bowlers to get initial breakthrough. Thats how Pollock rattled Indian top order throughout the series. Then again. Blame it on day-night play, the dew set on the outfield will always make life pathetic for the fielding side.

About Indian pitches : come on every one knows about it.

These kind of pitches, conditions killing the spirit of Cricket. Though one can argue like winning team should win in all pitches and conditions. Well, if the pitch conditions are same in all matches and if you can guess which team will win easily based on toss, then whats the point in playing ?? and making millions of people watch the game whose outcome is known?? We like to have matches dictated by team performance not decided by conditions. Why cant BCCI conduct Test matches in winter season and one days during summers ???, if at all they cant bring really good cricketing pitches and thus help in bringing quality of cricket.

New Internet Age

This is one of my favourite area of study while I was studying in college. Broadband over PowerLines. Though many technical details involved here, I like to put it as simple as possible. What does Broadband over powerline mean ? - it means that you access internet - broadband access, through existing PowerLines not via telephone lines.

Lot of reasearch going on and many big companies like Intel, Google are showing interests in this field. Our government making policies to implement this technology ! read here. That must be a gr8 joke (with existing conditions). The highly disorderliness of our power sector make sure this super technology never reach masses effectively.

I am no pundit but thats how I put my opinion. But I appreciate the motive behind it - to bridge digital-divide. To bring rural masses into mainstream this technology will surely aid. Forget the side-effects of it, as it is no way in comparison with the amount of knowledge-ignorance (relatively) in the country side. Before trying to implement this technology, our Government should remove the blockheads, hindrances and anything that infuses inefficiency. I hope that this dream technology won't remain as a mere dream, to help our people living in unfortunate rural India.

Google's new Avatar

God of Web - Goolge has come up with new service - Google Analytics. Really mind boggling for any ordinary neitizen. The features offered in this service are truly amazing. The small piece of code which you need to embed in your site can do magic. The features ranges from hi-fi marketing optimization to content performance to the place where a person is seeing your site to the browser setting he/she using to the operating system being used.....

There are many features which I just keep wondering what for they are used ? How effectively it can be use ? and that too free ! Never mind. They got their own way of doing business. A small question cropped in my mind. With the help of this small code in user's page they could track, describe and build on so many things and offer you wide range of features, I think , it is still possible, for them to get the details of commercial value from the users' activities without the laters' awareness. That could roughly mean " someone watching you ". Hopefully God of Web shouldn't be trending in these waters.

Thanx to keerthi I came to know about this service.

The No : 3 slot

The great Indian Cricket team . Four wins. Against a team which seemingly surprised by the embellishing form of its opponent. After the messy encounter of Sourav v/s chappell, the Indian team not only return to the top form but with the perfect winning formula.

Rahul Dravid, my favorite, has shown his style, smartness, quality and all those that required for a captain in all these games. In terms of batting skill set he certainly outshines former captain Saurav Ganguly. It seems from these four matches that he is going to outshine his predecessor in captaincy role too. Rahul's execution of his new role with adroit leadership has invited all praise from cricket fraternity. Perhaps he is reserved in this role at least till next World cup.

One of the effective and innovative strategy Dravid infused in last four games is No: 3 slot. He gambled with this slot very diligently. Perhaps gambling is wrong word in this context. He played it very smart. Very very smart. The promotion of young players having different skills to first down spot in these matches shown how well the strategy paid off. It also installed certain kind of uncertainty in approach in Srilankan camp. It also played spoilsports in opponents strategy. Upsetted their plans. Upset of Apple cart.

Well done Rahul. Well done Indian Team.

Re-returned...

Again I am back...long time gap...hmmm...The reader might have thought I would have been busy all these time...Perhaps not. Perhaps yes. I am in different phase of my life. From college to work. Lots of changes. Lots of friends lost. Lots of friends gained. When I try to rewind the past(College life) it seems it went past like a flash in front of my own eyes. The moments I enjoyed in college would never return. I understand the trueness of this statement only after coming out of college. Pity late. Four years in four seconds. Came. Went.

This is how my lonely moments are spent.Digging the memoirs of College life which brings big curve on my face.Sometimes laugher.Often inviting raised eyebrows on others.. :) Come on dude... this is how life moves. Shakes. Rocks!

Recently I read a book called "The Monk who sold his Ferrari" by Robin Sharma. No review. The book is perhaps best self-help book I have read ! The reading went like dusting my 22 year old memory and brought my good old habits. The book didn't enlightened me with highest knowledge but explained how simple actions, positive thoughts could bring joy in our life. Positive. Contentment. Happiness.

Atlast I configured my system with perfect dual boot in my not very old machine. It took nearly 10 times formatting the hard disk in a period of 6 months. Hours of patience. Hours of pain in sitting.Hours of learning. Satisfied. Still learning.

Now planning to put my muses here often. Think. Plan. Execute.

Finally returned !

It took me exactly 912 hours or 54720 minutes to post this write-up. Quite a long time indeed. What on earth (or outside of it) had changed due to no-posts in my blog. Actually it didn’t make any changes --- Our nearest star– Sun continues its nuclear fusion reaction process and which is responsible for binding of our blue-cum-blackened (as well as ozoned) Earth in its belt and helps the later to keep rotating to create day and night, the anti-matter in CERN reactors is still being tried upon to create ultra - super clean energy that will purify your soul and show how big bang happened and also answer the most intriguing question “is God exists?” (ideas inherited from : Dan Brown's ‘Angels & Demons’), environmentalists never came to agreement ( at least no MoUs ) about our world climate, Katrina’s merciless attack didn’t show any trace of mercy on the people whom its government neglected them and showed interest elsewhere in a country which is half way round the earth only to jeopardize the already existing system, no freezing of Sania mirza’s non-stop run from 300 odd rank to 34 th ranked women player in world of tennis which gave her enough guts to wear a t-shirt saying " You can either agree with me or be wrong " at a press conference and she is from a country where certain section of people with their old attitudes and beliefs dictate dress codes to women, no stopage of bloggers’ postings and comments on unfathomable memory space maintained by thousands of computers running on Linux across the world, it never changed the speed with which Windows Xp work on my moderately outdated computer system or the troubles it brings almost everyday, no breaks to my unceasing thoughts on myriad things around me or to my 'always on silence mode ' which makes my friends think how controlled I am and instill ephemeral envies in them ……….

One thing it (non-posting time gap) certainly helped me to do. Thinking about how I spent (wasted) my precious time to write this write-up which effectively speaks nothing but just make one of my fellow blogger to read the post which I have made after 3196800 seconds or 37 days.

Smokers' money

While I was going through the Hindu's editorial , an interesting point caught me between the lines :

......While big strides have been made in combating cancer in recent years, the fight against the disease has been wanting in funds not only for research and treatment, but also for educational and awareness programmes. As cancers of the mouth, throat, oesophagus, and lungs have been linked to tobacco use, funding for such efforts is crucial to the future of containment and control.....

While I was musing on those lines, an idea struck on my pristine grey cells to solve this funding problem. The main culprit of these Cancers found to be tobacco. What if government levy heavy taxes (heavier than what is existing) on the tobacco products and use this tax money to fund the institutions like Cancer institute,Chennai. It may look contradictory to use the money out of the same product which causes disease to cure people. It is similar to what government is doing like encourage the products and issue warnings on them ! One can easily guess this heavy tax if collected will certainly be passed on to the consumers in the name of price hike. This will directly/indirectly discourages tobacco usage and helps to strike a balance between funding problem and health issues.

Anyone would have noticed the policy of the government is like give necessary permissions to tobacco industries to produce products (tobacco products) and in turn help itself to fill its kajana , issue warning messages on the same products, ban the usage of the products in public places, ban smoking in movies saying that it encourages smoking among gullible and then spend huge amount of money in health sector, to fight against the disease which is caused by the same products, without producing any effective results. No one knows where the money -- hundreds of crores of rupees the government gets from tobacco industry every year -- is being used.

The kind of research going around Cancer related issues in the country needs encouragement from the government in all aspects. Not only monetary requirements it should quench but framing the policies to find the right balance between economic and social walks of life.

I have expressed my views as a common mortal and that will anyway demand not me to be an economist of yesteryear !

'Prince of Calcutta' is back

Inventors of Sourav Ganguly's jokes, which are widely distributed through e-mails and SMS , hereafter, may not find ways to strike up on a joke (thats what it is being called) on his batting style or performance. He silenced his critics with his career saving innings (perhaps) - 51 against a better opponent (Srilanka). During his innings he has joined 10000 run club.

When we rewind our memories for few months back, we have seen his pathetic batting display and single-digit innings. Everyone knows he is not technically a sound batsman like Dravid or Tendulkar. Still he was able to score twenty odd centuries. Thats sounds a bit awkward . Perhaps those centuries and accumulation of 10 k runs are possible only due to his gifted off-side drives and breath-taking shots of spinning deliveries.Though his inability to will the willow off the pads and poor shot selection (on the chest), which made him vulnerable, he was able to heap the pile of centuries into his kitty.

Ganguly did played brilliantly in many innings in which of few he had even lead India to victories . His captaincy is the most successful stint by any Indian captain till now, but that can't speak his skills or leadership qualities. His recent batting form was the most sort out news in the media circles. His rejection in the fothcoming Asian-Afro cricket matches made his supporters wake up from deep sleep and make voices just to inform public space that he has following too. Certainly he had worst period of his career and he was trying hard to comeover it. But he is such a lucky kid (to say the least) for having played so many matches with his poor run. Thanks to luck or Jagmohan (God only knows) he had played good number of matches in the name of regaining his lost form. If the same thing happened to any Australian cricketer he would have been sacked long back (eg: Steve waugh). See,this is how our cricket works... oops ! rather our cricket body works !

A Common man PC

Prices of computers (read PCs) are racing at one heck of a speed . Recently HCL infosystems released the magic sub-10k (Rs. 9990 ) personal computer. Sub-10k is the recent mantra of PC market in the country . Xenitis , a kolkata based company also bought sub-10k Intel based pc to the market. "Computer for Rs. 9990 " based on a processor by Taiwan based VIA Technologies in partnership with esys is also on the cards.

By googling I stumbled upon a article (PDF) , a bit old one but gives interesting insights of low cost PCs , expressing on " A PC for Rs.5000 " ! In fact the author of the article , Rajesh Jain , a tech blogger , with an IIT professor are looking to bring 5K PC to reality (according to article).

One GHz processor, 128 MB RAM, 40 GB hard disk, 15-inch digital colour monitor, 52X optical drive, keyboard and scroll mouse.

This is the specification of the sub-10k PC launched by HCL on Monday. The processor is neither of Intel nor AMD rather one of the processors of VIA technologies. Interestingly the operating system is not a Microsoft product (read windows) . They have opted Linux to keep costs down. I think this brings smiles to those who declared themselves to have "divorced windows and married Linux" , not because of yet another company shipping Linux with its product but for the 'promise to initiate' "open source software centre" in chennai in months time.

In my opinion , this announcement (along with low cost PC) blows trumpet to the IT world that our government is in direction of supporting Open Source products . And the reason being simply to enable the reach of computers and Internet to the mass of people especially to rural parts of our country in cost effective way and help them to enrich their quality of lives.

The Genius

If my brain lacked a particular small wrinkle (the parietal operculum) that most people have and if other regions on each side of my brain were a bit enlarged --- the inferior parietal lobes, I would have become the Albert Einstein of this century. But that's difficult to materialise.( accepted reality )

Albert Einstein - the true legend whose five papers that he submitted 100 years ago (miracle year), revolutionised the physics which we had known. This year is being declared as World year of physics in recognition of hundred year anniversary of his papers he submitted which modified our view on physics. He had donned many a role as a scientist, as a political thinker, as a musician and as a humanist and that's more than required to be a humble human. That's what it makes him special !

Portable Collection

The Portable Freeware Collection - this website contains a collection of Portable freewares.

What is Portable Freeware ? - Portable Freeware is one which can work independently on any system without any need of installation.

The main function of these freewares is that they are portable. Portable in the sense they can work on any system without any pre-installations.They can be carried around using USB flash drive, memory stick and can be run on different PC's (that's the idea of portability). These freewares don't have EXE setups rather they have zip files which are to be extracted in any one of the devices and can be runned directly. Few freewares don't even have zip files, just open the directory where it is stored and run. As simple as that !

So what's the use of freeware? Imagine when you want your browser's settings, bookmarks, cache options etc., to appear same in both of your computers ( assume you have ) say one at your office and other at your home, when you change the settings, say theme of your browser or bookmarking a webpage, in one of your computer then you need to go through the same process again at the other computer. (This may seem simple in this case. But in few other cases it can kill your valuable time). Here is where portable freewares comes in handy and very useful. In this case, a portable browser (firefox available) can be stored or extracted in your USB device and you can run the browser from anywhere. You can update your bookmarks , download new themes, set other settings as you wish and the files are updated in the USB device each time you make changes. Wherever you run the freeware, you always get the resources and feel you want. This is one of the example of portable freewares. There are hundreds of portable freewares you can find in this site.

Why it is called freeware, not software or shareware or anyware ? Reasons revolve around distribution rights, personal use etc., concepts. There are few issues like the freewares suggested in this site are not platform independent and things like that. All details are available here. It has RSS feeds too and you can right away ping this site in your news aggregator.

Really Nerdy.

From this september 6, Nerd TV goes on air, err.. goes on internet. A new television whose programs are much tailored to the nerdies, techno savvies, techno hungries, high techies.... can be downloadable legally, according to the website.

Life is going to be so easy! Looking for it and lets see how it is going to get shaped.

Dada's yoyo - 1

The day has arrived. The entire human fraternity has witnessed what is considered to be unfathomable goodness. All nine celestial bodies arranged in 3 x 3 matrix style. "This arrangement" says one prophecy " is dawn of a new age of unprecedented elevation of human kind to new realms." The day started with torrential rains in most barren parts of world, bright sunshine in many parts of world indicates as though sun is welcoming the new metamorphosis, the cool breeze which shifted people from their worrying state of mind to their sweetest memories, blowing across new lands, animals are making sounds as though they are going to be alleviated from their sufferings. India became superpower, Indians are praised for their aesthetics. Indian politicians' bank accounts reached ground, Rivers are interlinked, Sourav ganguly back to his form, Narain won F1 race, poverty became history and as well as terrorism.........

Life is never been so good ! These are positive omens to the birth of one person. This person is none else, the one & only His holiness DADA.

There are numerous newschannels, print media, digital media, forums, e-mails, blogs, discussions verbalizing about Dada and his incarnation on earth. Dada became instant celebrity. Everywhere, people speak on DADA, DADA, DADA and only DADA.

Dada grinned with the happenings around him. He immersed in ocean of glorification. Wait, he heard a faint voice somewhere at the background. He tries to concentrate on it. He heard "Thunguthu paru sanniyan, enthri kadala poyiu samanu vangitiva, enthiru nayae". Suddenly he was jerked by someone and he opened his eyes to see himself on bed with his mother giving routine wake up greetings.

Dada's observation :

"Oh ! " thought Dada " This ought to become reality but I know it wont because the world will never change as one wants to".

Dada's yoyo

Q. Dada ! Who is he ?

A. He is neither our famous Sourav Ganguly nor Underworld don in Mumbai.

Description :

Dada is an ordinary mortal who looks gracious but feels otherwise. His experiments with things always gives him a sense of achievement though he never achieved anything. He wants to project himself at the top of everything he sees,he hears & he speaks, but always find himself nowhere when it comes to reality. Dada finds some way or other motivate himself to live upto his ideals only to find himself stranded in myriad confusion.

Dada's activities often not understood by himself. His belief system constantly changes with realities. He thinks he is made of different metal. He thinks he is special. But in reality that is not the case.......

In one sentence, Dada is marriage of fantasy and bitter truth.

There will be posts on Dada's sayings, seeings, sightings, hearings,doings,movings... et all -ings in parts. In other words Dada's yoyo. So tune up your ears to Dada's yoyo.

The 'That Thing'

Dada's logic
:

Nothing is Something.
All Somethings are Nothings.(meta physically)
Everything is also Something.

and hence

Nothing is Everything.

Dada's Moral :

Nothing prevades all space including in us, since it is everything. Follow Nothing in you and you get Everything in your life.

Indian Union

"India's share of world income collapsed from 22.6% in 1700, almost to Europe's share of 23.3% at that time, to as low as as 3.9 % in 1952" - Source

Its really stunning information as editorial says. Looking this statistics isolately, I imagined what would happened all these years if we were maintaining the same income rate and if there were no british invasion, congress formation, freedom struggle so on and so forth, there would be no partition taken place, rather Indian Union of Princely states (IU) would have existed, similar to EU,as it would have been difficult to integrate princely states at that time without nationalistic ideas.

Thanks to British Raj, there is no 9/11 or 7/7 in Delhi or Bombay.

Anniyan - My View

Why should I review a film which is really anniyan to Tamil cinema ? Perhaps I should do for the same reason. At the end of movie I was happy for not that I like the movie but the presence of elements which can speak the Tamil cinemas new ventures into different plane. In my opinion, any film should not only entertain but should reflect society we live, educate the masses. Especially in our country cinema can be always a better medium to educate masses, because it can make subtler weaves in understanding patterns of viewers about society et others. In this film- Anniyan, the education is about Multiple-Personality Disorder. Not this going to help making enlighten minds but it atleast help people - majority -to add this term in their dictionary.

Coming to our film, Anniyan is not a repeated formula but certainly a new one to Tamil Cinema. One can watch the film for two reasons or for two V's i.e. for Vikram and Vivek .Multiple personality role each depicts extremist characteristics by Vikram is certainly applaudable. His roles which not only tested him but gave a new lease of life to Tamil cinema heros. Vivek , his irresistible wits left every one but to incessantly disturb ones laugh organs.

Shankar let down his audiences' expectation this time. Many unnecessary scenes included in screenplay like " Thiruvayaaru festival " . There are many a review to detail the full movie. I am not willing here as to follow my instinct to keep the write-up short.

In short,

First half of film : compromising expectations

second half of film : watchable

Overall : didn't specify that the inspiration of film is from the book "Tell me your Dreams"by Sidney Sheldon

The Confession.

"Born in a devotional Brahmin family, I instinctively came to revere Hindu religion, Hindu history and Hindu culture. I had, therefore, been intensely proud of Hinduism as a whole. As I grew up I developed a tendency to free thinking unfettered by any superstitious allegiance to any isms, political or religious......" these are the words Nathuram Godse stated in his confession. The confession material which i got somewhere on net is not the detailed one or one could doubt its authenticity.

I am not a history student or least to say i am not aware completely about the partition issues i.e. what transpired among whom, who are involved etc... . But something instinctively driving me to comment on this. In the write-up he speaks about his thought formation on freedom issues by reading many great leaders speeches at that time. The material wholly speaks on Godse decision to assasinate the most revered person of our country in his own words. He accepts that the services by Gandhi in South Africa to alleviate Indians living in dire conditions at that time. This is the only part i can see positive point on Gandhi. But when it comes to Gandhi's attitude towards muslims his thoughts goes awry (subjectised). He calls Gandhi as pro-Muslim person.

He accuses Gandhi (with respect to material) as one who consider himself as final decision maker and yields others ( read Congress) to surrender to his words. He also said that Gandhi alone understood the science of activities he initiated like civil disobedience movements and irrespective of results it never made no difference in Gandhi's infallibility. In his own words (w.r.t material) " 'A Satyagrahi can never fail' was his formula for declaring his own infallibility and nobody except himself knew what a Satyagrahi is ".

His comments on Gandhi's support of Hindustani as National language, his fast unto death to remove hindus who occuppied mosques in Delhi at that time, pro-muslim attitudes of latter, can invite die-hard supporters of Gandhi to declare war on him. The comment which made me to sit and think about the write-up,which otherwise an ordinary one, is "I stoutly maintain that Gandhi has failed in his duty. He has proved to be the Father of Pakistan. His inner-voice, his spiritual power and his doctrine of non-violence of which so much is made of, all crumbled before Jinnah's iron will and proved to be powerless".He went on to express why he decided to assasinate him,his unshaken stand on morality of his action, his contribution to nation....and so on.

What on earth made me to post this kind of matter here ? Do i support what ever Godse had confessed ? or Do i back Gandhi for his actions ? or Do i support Gandhi for no reason like hundreds of my fellow Indians ? or Do i out of pure love on him ?

Certainly things are perceived by lot of people in increasingly hard way.In my opinion whatever Godse confessed is purely his perception. Perceptions cannot be always true as they are very much subjective. When i read Gandhi's autobiography, my instinct told me that he is very personification of Truth and he is.Many great leaders who praised his work towards Indian independence couldn't go wrong with their statements. Its impossible for all to go wrong or impossible for Gandhi's name to remain in minds of every indian so long, if he is not truly what he was. Gandhi might be wrong in few cases which few alone could understand what he did actually and what went wrong. In any case we are eternally debted to Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

Authors note:
This write-up is based on a material i got somewhere on Net. Truly i lost its source. I got a copy of it. if needed jus mail me at saithilak@gmail.com .

The OSS way

My friend once told me " Windows is best OS in the world". I know that he never tried any other OS other than windows. I asked him the reason for which he said that it is the most user-friendly OS at present. I was taken aback. User-friendly ? Does one judge or rate OS based on this parameter only. May be millions around the world who use for general purpose computing like searching the net like his idea. Think of many multi national companies employing their whole business strategies on softwares run on OS. Surely they don't consider OS for user-friendliness ! They certainly want more than that. Ubiquitous servers that running the whole Internet, multi processors, supercomputers, embedded systems, intelligent systems... all need not just ease of use but the power to perform with utmost precision backed with supreme security to data and a repertoire of tools to control it. I am not a expertise to comment on different OS and their suitability etc., but that never stops me putting my own perceptions on it.

Microsoft developed OS that indeed occupied millions of computers around the world. Using this as an advantage it shipped its OS with packages like IE browser, media player... and killed businesses of many companies. Its monopoly in OS market and with its bundled packages proliferated to such an extent, many people (including my friend ) don't know anything outside windows. This is really an awkward point in this information age. A single-vendor supplying softwares to companies will certainly not be helpful in long run in terms of flexible transformation to different business strategies ( A naive thought !). A simple example would be, consider a company expanding its business looking for better security in their network. It has to depend on the single - vendor who might be in the process of developing patches for it or may not be aware of bug at all, the company has to wait all the time it could get the service done and hence it could loose potential business. If this is in case of OSS (open source software ) where one could have software codes to his requirements and best human resource available for development.

Now some socialistic thoughts. I have developed an ideal world in dreams where all six billion people use computers for sharing information,do business, mail friends, play music, networking new people.... so on and so forth (what a dream !).To enable this dream to come true i followed few writeups and gathered few surface points. These thoughts you might heard elsewhere, still i could spell it here. In order to computers to reach all people cut-crossing all socio-economic barriers,to lessen the digital-divide which spawned all over the world, we need different strategies to employ depending on local conditions. Certainly proprietary softwares cannot be depended for developing the new thins of digital-divide because the cost, rights, piracy involved and dependency on single vendors will make transition difficult. Indian government rightly took a decision to go OSS way. It developed fonts, softwares and Firefox browser in regional languages ( so far in Tamil and Hindi versions are released ). By this strategy, with the support from computer hardware vendors the government could - to an extent - help to reduce digital divide and help the reach of technology to rural India. This may not revolutionize Indian computer literacy overnight but it takes time to reach masses as they are many damages done by monopolism . This step is jus a step towards contributing its goal to make computers a tool and not an larger than life machine.

The same two blind people got into the same compartment of the same train in which i commute to the same college everyday. They were singing ''Ammavai allaikatha uyirruillai.......'' tamil song. I was lost in the eternal music which made mumblings of my infinite thoughts which often blocks few, creates few, crossfires few, inspire few came to a complete standstill. At very moment i experienced my true self reflecting in this enchanting number. It also initiated a train of thoughts -' I traveled whopping sixty five thousand kilometers in these four years of my college life in commuting. This travel gave me an opportunity to see landscape in the way it changes with different seasons, millions of emotions expressed by fellow commuters, many single-man business units with unique marketing strategies to sell their products, few real studs discussing vague scientific ideas to get impression form general public, window sightings, Romeo teasing -Juliet responses, giggling by many first years when their seniors crack jokes, many in deep contemplation, many in meditating their own thoughts in silence, myriad expressions...' - suddenly the charming voice stopped and i was awakened like i was out of deep sleep , only to find the train has reached next station and those gifted people kept themselves doing their business in the next compartment. After one and half hour of travel the train crawled into the station where i need to get down to see the same college to which i am a regular visitor unlike few. Every environmentalist would love to see my college campus whenever there is any officials from AICTE or professors from unknown university in America visit our college , when there will be full of artifacts, stables displayed at prominent places just to remind us that we too can have aesthetic sense. The same somber mood exhibited on the faces of students who hardly slept for few hours due to many pre-occupations in previous nights. The lecturer on time to class makes students to mumble and drag their feet to sit inside a dark room with couple of tube lights, ceiling fans, couple of projectors and uncomfortable single seaters which can never help you to sleep. I was jerked suddenly by someone which made me to enter the realworld only to see all people laughing and the lecturer with slides '' Network Protocols '' staring at me as though i have done a big blunder. It took me few moments to realise that i was dreaming all this time.

OSI reference layers,TCP/IP,Internet routing,Internet addressing,protocols..... explains the guy at elevated part of the class with chalk in his hands. There were different reactions inside the room - few acting as though they are keenly listening, few tweaking mobile phones, few at definite angle watching something or someone, few contemplating, few sleeping..... Suddenly the man who at a position desperately wants someone to listen to his lecture which is genuinely boring, evaporates all his patience and announces the much awaited lunch break. The sleeping minds spring into action like rising sun in the clear sky, radiating the feeling of hunger.

The 3 x 5 x 10 feet box which comes to life when a 400 hp motor is excited with the help of guides running from ground zero to top, high enough to see what a couple doing under a tree. The micro controller based on Intel chips with LCD displays, intercom facility and a 5 x 5 mirror that can help you in anyway you want to,is poorly lighted and has an exhaust fan whose power rating is of minuscule amount comparing the (electric)power we spend dreaming in bathroom. This box what we generally call lift or elevator drives smoothly across the vertical guides and crawls whenever it senses any horizontal concrete structures using state-of-art technology.

With all euphoria of last day classes in college we, a bunch of students numbering in sixteen with a couple of workers boarded into the elevator. There inside , i could see few technical details along with license information about the elevator. There one could read the maximum load : 1066 kg and Maximum no. of persons : 16. This could hardly make any news to us. We all started at fifth floor of building for 'journey to ground'.

There were different people on board - Mr.exciter, Mr.coolguy, Mr.madurai, Mr.officer, Mr.kadalai , Mr.everlaughing guy, Mr.silence, Mr.mokkai,Mr.eatomania and me with few others. Mr.eatomania once said '' Stomach is important part of human body and philosophically we work to live which in turn possible through eating. Thus stomach is main part of body ''. Mr.mokkai 's joke (mokkai) cant stop you to release your anger(steam) through your ears. He can make you scratch your head at any time with his timely mokkai(native inventive of bad joke)which he delivers with highest quality after filtering enough bad ones. Mr.exciter always makes something funny which sometimes trouble inviting and makes your glands linked to laughter always busy. Mr.exciter is too excited these days due to a proposal he had received. Mr.officer with his split second changing reactions on his face can make you surprise and you may say '' what the heck is he up to ? ''. Mr. Everlaughing guy keeps busy with laughing irrespective of any kind of jokes cracked, sometimes with no jokes at all. Mr. Kadalai is always busy putting kadalai which sometimes invite wrath from others. But it can never deter our talented guy in any way. Mr.coolguy with ever chewing bubblegum reads novel in class, rarely listens to class but can answer any concept relating to JAVA techologies hands down. Mr.madurai who always interested in data warehousing information, which many are gossip related, always expresses his intentions to upgrade his database using unheard techniques. Mr.silence is always silence as his name suggests. He can be stoic and inexpressive even when hard times calling him. His looks give an impression of learned scholar or full vessel with wisdom - but i bet you can be wrong.

Time has begun.....

Fourth floor :

Mr. everlaughing guy requests the lift to let him to be serviced - i.e. to get himself in to the lift . He wasn't interested in getting into the lift but to interrupt us at all the floors between top and bottom of building just for sake of doing something and with no reasons . This made our Mr.exciter to press a button which can make your ride uninterrupted and gives you one-stop service.

Third floor :

Mr.mokkai comes up with the another mokkai which made us to run for spaces, made felt nauseate (to exaggerate). I wont spell out that mokkai here as i want you to read this story fully. Otherwise you will run for something that can cool you after emancipation of heat lying deep inside you which is dying to come out.

Second Floor :

Mr. eatomania sensed the omen somewhere ( certainly not from the biriyani ). He said '' what if the lift stops in midway ......'' . This made no difference as it never reached our panic nerves since the mood of air was different.

First floor :

'' Mr.everlaughing guy atleast by now understood he's been fooled '' one of the thoughts i had when Mr.exciter plays with the intercom, emergency bells. Many kind of these were running in my pristine mind as they are processed by an unnamed ANN algorithm programmed unconsciously by me sometime when i was five year old kid.

Between First floor and ground :

The air inside the elevator was mixture of organic compounds with higher percentage of carbon dioxide and fusion of odor from 36 underarms that can make you nauseate and suffocate. Thanks to lonely exhaust for which we could breathe without any problem for the entire journey. As i was watching the three hand machine which can run continuously for years with the help of robust induction motor , a thumping sound - which can wake you up from deep sleep and make you vegetate - heard from nowhere and suddenly the elevator stopped. The very moment no one understood what had happened and the decibel level in the small room was virtually nil except that of ticking of watches. The very next moment Mr. exciter is excited with new developments was jumping in joy for breakdown of elevator (weird reaction to say the least). We didn't get the feel of situation we are in until a certain time at which i can see myriad expressions on the faces of 17 people at a pace, at which no professional photographer can catch them in his frame even with his latest x.x resolution high speed camera.

Out of blue comes Mr.kadalai with astounding fear in his voice. He started to speak something which made everyone surprised. I thought he was expressing the words of his mind that you can easily understand its genuineness. Nobody got nerve to comment on his reaction and by this time everyone got the feel of situation. Now all are serious. There comes Mr.coolguy ,he asks eveyone not to speak as it would bring suffocation. Thats good move .He asks everyone to shut up their speakers and he tried taking control of situation. Least i expect any woman in the lift as it would trigger many superhero stunts, unnecessary heroic dialogues or at least couple of fainting. Thanks to God, at last Mr.exciter got the seriousness into his head and stopped making jokes. We started to contact people through intercom which we thought it could be lonely savior. All cellphone signals are dead except Airtel network.I tried my cellphone to contact outside people but the signals didn't get amplified at nearest tower. Mr. Madurai comes with series of instruction to revive my phone but the situation so gripped i hardly can handle it. I was trembling. At this moment i experienced fear of death first time in my life. It sent chill down my spine and i was numb for few seconds and but i was in partial control of myself. My thoughts dwelled in again at different levels thinking about heroic acts, movie stunts, instinct behaviour, bringing concepts.... and many things working on the BNN networks of my brain. By this time Mr.kadalai called someone, who is obviously a lady, through his phone .
Few felt suffocated. Few are cold out of fear acting in deepest levels of their consciousness. Many are silent in not to make things worse. All are perspiring .'' Phew ! we got it '' said someone. At last we got the intercom connection as we were trying desperately to make it. The lift people asked us to open the inner door of elevator which helped us to breathe fresh air which came through the thinnest gap of outer door. We got confidence (at least myself) that we can get out without any problem. The lift people restarted the motor and the power went out for few seconds and came again to help this overweight sensitive machine to help us to reach ground.

We came out of that automated box bustling as though we are in danger room for ages. We burst into laughter even after experiencing the worst moments. The same kind of jokes cracked with new vigor. This made me to understand the exuberance of youth which i heard somewhere in a life science magazine long back. Mr.kadalai for his guts got appreciation from all. Naturally he got surrounded by bunch of ladies who are at early twenty s with dialogues in his own words '' I had re-birth today, i will never get into the lift again in my life...''. That sometimes bring smiles on your faces but certainly not to him,who genuinely had a nightmare. How people perceive things differently given the same situation ? (intriguing).

The same class extended in afternoon to extend our sleeping time in hot summer afternoon. Soon we forgot what happened as we are saying goodbye to the college for a last time. The four years of college life will never return again. I had a great time and experienced all emotions human can have including the fear of death. I bade goodbye to college which at least helped me to develop patience to travel three hours daily in an commuting medium run by worlds largest employer.
